Welcome to Athens

Athens is the perfect place to hold a meeting or convention, or any type of gathering you can imagine.  There are facilities capable of adapting to the large or small group ranging from individual meeting rooms to outdoor arenas.

Athens, home of the Original Hamburger, is located at the edge of the Piney Woods of East Texas, making it a perfect place to gather.  Temperatures are moderate and State Highways 31 and 19 pass through the city, as well as US Highway 175.  Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, and the Athens Municipal Airport are in the area for convenient traveling.  Athens is located 75 miles southeast of Dallas, 189 miles north of Houston and within close proximity to Interstates 45 and 20, making for easy access to the city.

The professional staff at the City of Athens Department of Tourism can assist with setting up room blocks at local hotels and provide you with hotel sleeping room rates and availability for your group.  Our staff is also available to provide you with information on meeting facilities in Athens and answer any questions you may have including caterers, rental companies, and more.

The Cain Center sits nestled in the heart of the beautiful, 85-acre Cain Park, surrounded by beautiful oaks and pines.  On the grounds you will find tennis courts, fishing ponds, and a walking-jogging trail.  The Cain Center has served all of East Texas, both as a civic center offing 14,500 square feet of meeting space, and as a fitness center with its many exercise areas.  Click here to learn more about the Cain Center.

The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center was opened in 1996 by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to serve as an educational and entertaining nature center and as a state-of-the-art hatchery.  The Fisheries Center also serves as a gathering place for many meetings and events.  Click here to learn more about the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center.

The Henderson County Regional Fair Park Complex is located three miles east of downtown and sits on 68 acres.  The complex consists of a coliseum, multi-purpose building, two covered arenas, one outdoor arena, two large barns with stalls, RV hookups and more.  Click here to learn more about the Henderson County Regional Fair Park Complex.

There are a number of other venues for your meeting or special event from hotels to attractions, please call the City of Athens Department of Tourism at 903.677.0775 for more information or to start planning your next meeting in Athens.
